The Wraith family moved from Gauteng and purchased two adjacent farms in 2003 just outside of Stellenbosch. The farm lies between two high mountain peaks (Stellenbosch and Helderberg Mountains), we tend to be several degrees cooler than Stellenbosch. Keermont Vineyards was born in 2007.
What started out as 8 hectares of vines is now 29 hectares and 13 different cultivars planted. Alex Starey joined in 2005 as viticuturist and helped with the replanting program. After making a few experimental barrels of wines in 2005, today we produce approximately 65,000 bottles. 100% natural fermentation in open top tanks for the reds (Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec & Mourvedre).
The wines spend 2 years maturing in barrel and at least 1 year in bottle before release. Our white wines (Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Roussanne, Marsanne, Viognier) are all 100% naturally fermented in barrel and spend a year on the lees. All of our wines are grown, produced & bottled at Keermont. Alex and his team aim is to make wines that reflect the beautiful natural environment surrounding us.
